/now · derek sivers stole this format

what i’m doing, dated so you know how stale this is.

i update this when something genuinely changes. if a section says the same thing next quarter, that’s the truth — not laziness. last updated Saturday, August 1, 2026.

doing

  • shipping caduceus v0.1 — the rust daemon, the hermes plugin, the worker-bridge. v0.1 release gate passed; v0.2 cuts when the docs stop moving.
  • keeping signal house honest. the hermes token-usage card is now a real card on the dashboard — was hiding behind a config flag.
  • rewriting this site for the third time. the first version was a single-page react thing. the second was fine. this one has a soul.

learning

  • tokio internals in a way i can defend in a code review, not just nod at.
  • how to write a "roast my code" heuristic that doesn't feel like a linter cosplaying as a person.
  • that "boring tech wins" only holds if you've actually used the boring tech enough to be bored by it.

shipping

  • caduceus public beta — once the docs stop moving.
  • a /now page that doesn't go stale in three weeks (challenge: it will anyway).
  • this site. v3. it has opinions now.

bored of

  • tailwind utility chains that read like a sentence you have to translate from finnish.
  • “ai-powered” as a marketing word for a regex.
  • rate-limit headers that lie about the algorithm.
